Each god holds a Seal. Their known names are the names used in the Hallow; supposed deeper names remain matters of belief.
| God | Seal | What it holds back | Affinity |
|---|---|---|---|
| Virenna, the Greenmother | First | Barrenness, so things may grow | Bloom |
| Daegred, the Sunward | Second | Darkness, so there is day | Lumen |
| Aefenna, the Lamplighter | Third | Night without ending, so power may ebb and return | Reverie |
| Wefan, the Weaver | Fourth | Shapelessness, so power may hold form | None |
| Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies | Fifth | Forgetting, so events can be recorded | None |
| Deopa, the Deep | Sixth | The Welter's depths, held within himself | Umbra |
| Undon, the Unmaker | Seventh | He completes the enclosure on the term that no sealing lasts | Pyre |
Daegred and Aefenna oppose each other as day and night. Wefan and Tellan oppose each other as form and record. Deopa and Undon oppose each other as the depth that keeps and the unmaking that takes. Virenna has no opposed god.
Five affinities leak through the imperfect Covenant. Lumen is order, law, light and protection; Reverie is dream, illusion and mind; Umbra is death and its aftermath; Pyre is fire, destruction and war; Bloom is growth, beasts and living ground.
Cultivators call their ring the stalled wheel. Lumen feeds Reverie, Reverie feeds Umbra, Umbra feeds Pyre, Pyre feeds Bloom and Bloom feeds Lumen. Order dreams; dreams die; the dead burn; ash nourishes growth; growth orders itself. This describes the cycle of power, not an afterlife or a journey every soul must take.
Plain describes what has no affinity. It is not another affinity, and Humans have no casting core.
