The World

The seven ages

The Age of the First Covenant. The Seals were whole and Heaven's Gate was closed. The appointed openings renewed a surviving world. Its natives had no cores.

The Age of the Breaking. The Skybreaker tore Heaven's Gate. Shards scattered and foreign souls fell in. The Hallow was unmade entirely for the first time, and the natives' dead were stranded at Deopa's threshold.

The Age of the First Sealborn. Newcomers learned to cast. Great kingdoms devoured small ones, so Daegred made the Law of Equals. Aefenna added the counter, a grudge repaid. After a veteran struck Wen Sarai out shortly after her arrival, Daegred made the Newcomer's Grace.

The Age of Odrin. Odrin Half-Core laid Umbra over ground where the stranded dead pressed close. They rose on borrowed life, while his living folk faded. Deopa took him as the first mortal master of the Deep Hand. His later fate is not known here.

The Age of the Given Word. Ysme of Lumen and the Flint lineage fought a shared enemy. After their victory Flint D. Rook broke his word and attacked Ysme's thin places, where the Greenmother's Ox had starved her wards. Their later fates remain untold. The Ox's maker is an unidentified Bloom artisan; Ysme is its first recorded holder.

The Age of the First Invention. The first new discovery was recorded. Wefan believed the Covenant was learning to close. Tellan believed the Welter was learning to enter. Neither belief is a settled answer.

The Present Age. Today's Turnings add their standings, histories and reached discoveries to Tellan's records.

Wen Sarai returns each Turning and waits within her first foothold. She raises no new fortress beyond it. Her walls can fall, and the Newcomer's Grace does not last forever. Why she waits has not been told.
