Blessed vials

Blessed vials is a lesser work: a rack of sealed water that guild artisans fill in a Guild during the current Turning, by the method of Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies. It holds no Seal-shard and no hungry spirit. Many racks exist, and each is emptied in one battle.

It is thrown before the fighting starts. The water burns only the restless dead, the natives' dead stranded at the threshold of Deopa, the Deep's Deep since the Breaking, whom Umbra raises on borrowed life. Every such company on the other side is scalded. Living soldiers, beasts and made things are only wet.

The guilds tell where it began. In the Age of Odrin, Odrin Half-Core raised the stranded dead, and his living folk faded around him. The artisans say the first vials were filled in answer, by makers of Lumen who had watched it happen. Water held in daylight, they say, remembers the day Daegred, the Sunward's Seal keeps.

As with every work, a kingdom that trains Sunward Hand is said to draw a fiercer burn from the same water.
