Fire oil jars is a lesser work: a crate of sealed jars that guild artisans fill in a Guild during the current Turning, by the method of Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies. It holds no Seal-shard and no hungry spirit. Many crates exist, and each is broken in one battle.
The jars are smashed over the enemy before the fighting. The oil clings to every company on the other side, and for that battle fire takes them more easily. The jars burn nothing on their own. They only prepare the ground.
That is why cultivators of Pyre, the affinity of fire and war that Undon, the Unmaker holds, love them. Each side in a battle may bring a battle spell and a work of its own. A Pyre mage who brings the oil as the work, and a fire as the spell, has made the two into one blow. Break the jars first, they say, then cast.
A kingdom that trains Sunward Hand is said to get a thicker oil from the same jars.
