Fog pouch

Fog pouch is a lesser work: a stitched pouch that guild artisans fill in a Guild during the current Turning, by the method of Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies. It holds no Seal-shard and no hungry spirit. Many pouches exist, and each is emptied in one battle.

Opened before the fighting, it pours out a fog that covers the whole field. For that battle every enemy company strikes less surely. The fog is not choosy, though. A clumsy hand blinds its own side as well. The more practised the hand that opens it, the more the fog keeps to the enemy, and a kingdom that trains Sunward Hand can keep its own ranks clear altogether. The fog never makes anyone see more clearly.

The stationers like to say the fog is scraped from the edge of the Mist, the ground the Covenant has not fixed. The artisans roll their eyes at this. It is ordinary fog, they say. No one can bottle the Mist.
