Vanishing ash

Vanishing ash is a pouch of fine grey ash. It is a lesser work, sifted in a Guild with the method of Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies. It holds no Seal-shard, it is Plain, and a pouch is empty after one battle.

It is the work its side brings to the fight. Before the armies meet, the ash is scattered over its owner's army. For that battle, every company takes the same place in the order of striking, and the card shows which place. Fast and slow companies alike move together. The order of striking is a convention of battle.

The artisans explain it with the ring of affinities. The dead burn, and ash nourishes growth: Umbra feeds Pyre, and Pyre feeds Bloom. This ash, they say, is what Pyre leaves behind. Scattered over soldiers, it hides them, and soldiers who cannot be seen strike before they are struck.

The pouch has no treasure spirit and no hunger. Its only cost is the ordinary one.
