Drake cleaver is a relic, a unique treasure Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps among the Mnemoliths across the Unsealings. Its heavy blade holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards, and its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.
Tellan records no maker, and where the shard lay before its binding is unknown. The unearthed tell a story with it. In the Age of the First Sealborn, when great kingdoms were still devouring small ones, a lord's land bordered dragon ground, and the cleaver was forged for that border war. They say its core runs Pyre, the affinity of fire and war. No record confirms any of it.
Dragons are among the affinity-born, the native life that grows where an affinity runs strong. They are old, proud and hard to kill. While the cleaver is held, every dragon in an enemy army is frailer, as if it already felt the blade. Against any other foe the cleaver does nothing at all.
Its price shows only in what follows. Heaven weighs relics, and the cleaver makes its kingdom heavier in Weight. Under the Law of Equals, a heavier kingdom finds stronger rivals within reach, and not all of them field dragons.
