Lunar rod is a relic, a unique treasure Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps among the Mnemoliths through the Unsealings. The pale rod holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards, and its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.
No maker is recorded, and where its shard lay before is unknown. Aefenna, the Lamplighter holds the Third Seal, which holds back night without ending, and holds Reverie, the affinity of dream, illusion and mind. Cultivators say the rod draws its strength from that night, and that its shard runs Reverie. Guild artisans add that it was bound as one of a pair with Grand magus staff. The staff strikes with the elements; the rod strikes at mind and body.
In battle it takes the place each side keeps for a work of its own. Before the armies close, the rod lets fall a great blow on an enemy company. It may be a crushing force of mind, a paralysis that locks every limb, or raw magic with no affinity at all. The rod selects both the blow and the target. It delivers the blow itself; its holder does not become a caster by raising it.
Its hunger is patience and chance. The holder cannot aim it, and after each use the rod must rest for a long span of turns before it will strike again.
Between battles, heaven weighs it. The rod makes its kingdom heavier in Weight, and the Law of Equals brings stronger rivals within reach.
