Arrow ward is a simple battle spell of Lumen, the affinity of order, law, light and protection that Daegred, the Sunward holds. Before the lines meet, the caster raises a thin ward over a single company, selected as the battle falls. For that battle, arrows, stones and bolts turn aside before they bite.
Lumen cultivators call it a kingdom's great ward folded small enough to fit one company. They speak of it in the same breath as Warding, the art of wards that Daegred, the Sunward and Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies teach together. A Barrier stands over a whole kingdom and goes on consuming mana; this ward lasts only the battle.
A kingdom brings one battle spell to each fight. A deeper realm makes the ward stronger; the card shows how much. A core of another affinity casts it at greater cost, with more failure and less strength. Every Turning a Sealborn must recover it by research, and a Human lord can never cast it.
