Apparition is a waking dream of Reverie, given enough shape to walk into battle. Unlike most dream-things, it is raised in the kingdom's Barracks, and raising one takes time, geld and mana, and draws on the kingdom's own folk. Once raised it eats no geld. A little mana keeps it, and it can be sent home when it is no longer needed.
A blade passes through it as through fog, and nothing that strikes at the mind can reach it. It strikes at the enemy's mind from a distance and fills them with dread. Where it passes, the enemy's guard against raw power loosens.
Why does a dream draw on the kingdom's people? Ordinary folk in Reverie kingdoms have an answer. A volunteer, they say, lends their own dreaming to the shape. For as long as it walks, they sleep without dreams. When it is sent home, they wake, and they are never quite the same afterwards. Most who volunteer say they do not regret it, and speak of it only as a long dream they lent and got back.
