Elf mage is of the elves, an affinity-born people found where Bloom runs strong. In battle it stands back and strikes from afar with power, aims true, and moves quickly out of reach. Arrows, blades and even the mind's attacks mostly turn aside from it.
A kingdom recruits elf mages through its Barracks, at a cost in geld, mana and people, and keeps them on geld and mana. Unpaid, they desert. A lord who no longer needs them may send them home. They take longer to muster than most.
Sealborn sometimes ask how an elf does what they need a Seal-shard to do. The elf mages give their own answer: they do not cast as the Sealborn cast. They carry the leak of Bloom in their blood, they say, and only let it out.
