Ember giant is a giant of the fire-folk, affinity-born where Pyre runs strong. Its skin is cinder-dark and its hands are never cool. In battle it stands back and hurls burning stone. Fire cannot hurt it, and it is hard to bring down, but cold bites it deeply.
A kingdom recruits ember giants through its Barracks, at a cost in geld, mana and people, and keeps them on geld and mana. They are slow to muster, desert when unpaid, and can be sent home.
The giants give themselves a place on the ring of affinities. The dead burn, so Umbra feeds Pyre. Ash nourishes growth, so Pyre feeds Bloom. The ember giants call themselves the stokers of the ring, keeping the fire between the dead and the green. Bloom cultivators, who owe their soil to that fire, rarely argue.
