Frost ape is a shaggy beast of Reverie, native to the high, cold places. A mage casts Summon frost ape, and it comes down from the snow in a flurry of white fur.
It strikes with hands colder than ice, then breathes a blast of cold at its foes. For so large a beast, it is quick, and its aim is good. Fire is its bane: fire harms it more than any other attack. Reverie cultivators point to the ring of affinities, where Pyre lies across from Reverie and the two repel each other.
Its upkeep is mostly geld with a little mana. Ordinary folk say the geld pays for meat: the beasts eat a great deal, and someone must haul it up the mountain. Stop paying and the beast is dismissed.
The folk say these beasts live on the high slopes where Aefenna, the Lamplighter's night lies longest, and that they are never quite awake by day.
