Holy champion is one of the kingdom's ordinary folk, trained for a long season in steel and in light. The Barracks charge geld, a little mana and people for each, and the training is slow. Its upkeep is mostly geld. Unpaid, it deserts; unneeded, it can be sent home.
It fights hand to hand, with a blade that carries light and a great shield. The card shows how well.
Lumen is the affinity of law, and its champions take law personally. Lumen cultivators say a champion will not march beside a marked lineage, whatever it is paid, and that this custom began after Flint D. Rook struck Ysme of Lumen in the Age of the Given Word.
The saying is repeated in every Lumen barracks, the way soldiers repeat the rules they hope they will keep.
