War elephant is a great beast of burden of the Hallow, trained for war and hired out with the keepers who drive it. It is an ordinary beast. It has no affinity and is Plain, unlike the affinity-born beasts that live where an affinity runs strong.
Hiring one is costly: a great deal of geld, a little mana and several people. The Barracks organise the contract. The folk say the people in the price are the keepers, who walk beside the beast and feed it. The upkeep is heavy, and most of it is paid in geld.
In battle it tramples with great strength, but it turns and moves clumsily. The card shows both.
Its older work was building. A Human heir wakes with walls to rebuild, and the lords sing that these beasts hauled the stone for the first walls a new heir raised. A lineage that hires one still sings about it.
Unpaid service ends. A War elephant can be sent home with its keepers.
