Poison phial is a small stoppered phial of venom. It is a lesser work, made in a Guild with the method of Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies. It holds no Seal-shard, it is Plain, and it is spent in a single battle.
It is the work its side brings to the fight. Before the armies meet, every company that fights hand to hand dips its edges, and for that battle its blows carry poison. Archers and casters gain nothing from it. The artisans say a blade dipped once keeps its bite until the fighting ends.
Soldiers who close with the enemy get the most from it. Sapper, who fights behind a large shield, is one of them. A coreless Human lord may operate an admitted work without casting anything; the work delivers the effect.
The lineages' songs are divided. Some call the phial a coward's work. Others answer that a lineage which keeps its given word may still keep its knives sharp. The phial has no treasure spirit and no hunger. Its only cost is the ordinary one.
