Sapper

Sapper is a soldier of a coreless Human lineage: one of the kingdom's own ordinary folk, trained to advance behind a large shield and to take walls apart. Recruiting costs geld and draws its soldiers from the kingdom's people, and the lord's Barracks organise the work. Like every drilled soldier, a Sapper is Plain and carries no affinity.

A Human lord builds works and walls, and their lineage's songs say that is where this service began. The first of these soldiers, the songs tell, learned to break walls by building their own: a Human lord who knows how their walls stand knows how others' fall.

This soldier serves the lineage's given word as well as its pay. A given word is the will made binding, and the Covenant recognises it. The pay still matters: upkeep is paid in geld, and unpaid soldiers desert. A Sapper can be sent home like any ordinary recruit.

What the shield and the siege training do in battle is shown on the card.
