Conflagration is a battle spell of Pyre, the affinity of fire, destruction and war, and the largest fire it holds. Before battle, fire falls on every company in the enemy army at once. The larger a company, the more of it burns. No two castings burn quite alike, and a deeper realm burns hotter. The card shows the range. From a core of another affinity, the fire is weaker. Research presses it into a Seal-shard, and a returning Sealborn must recover it after each recasting.
Like every battle spell, it must get past the ward, the resistance of its affinity and the creature's own resistance. An army under Ember ward is proof against its fire.
The Human lineages keep songs about this fire. They sing that the devouring kingdoms of the Age of the First Sealborn used it to end a small kingdom's army in a single day, until Daegred, the Sunward made the Law of Equals. The songs end, as the ring does, in ash. Ash nourishes growth, and the Human songs say the fields came back first.
