Illusory force is a battle spell of Reverie, the affinity of dream, illusion and mind. Before the armies close, the caster dreams a blow and lets it fall on one enemy company, selected by no one. Nothing is thrown and no blade is drawn, yet soldiers fall. Cultivators of Reverie put it simply: the wound is dreamed, but the body believes it.
On the ring of affinities, dreams die, so Reverie feeds Umbra. Its cultivators say this spell is where a young mage of Aefenna, the Lamplighter's affinity first sees that saying made real.
The dreamed blow is still magic, so it must pass the same three defences as any other: the ward, the resistance of its affinity and the creature's own resistance. A deeper realm makes it heavier. Cast against the grain by a mage of another affinity, it costs more, fails more easily and lands weaker. It needs a casting core, so no one cast it before the first Sealborn learned to cast.
