Silver palm mending is a battle spell of Lumen, the affinity of order, law, light and protection that Daegred, the Sunward holds. Nothing happens while the fighting lasts. When it ends, the caster lays a bright hand over the field, and part of every company the kingdom lost stands up again.
Lumen cultivators are careful about what this is. They say the light catches the newly fallen before they slip down to Deopa's threshold, and that the soldiers who rise are the kingdom's own, returned to their lives. They are not the restless dead, the natives' dead that Umbra raises on life borrowed from the living. Every Lumen teacher tells the story of Odrin Half-Core, whose dead rose while his living folk faded, and says this spell is the opposite of that bargain.
A kingdom brings one battle spell to each fight. A shard of another affinity brings back far fewer, at greater cost and with more failure. Every Turning a Sealborn must recover the spell by research, and a Human lord can never cast it.
