Summon screaming root is a spell of Bloom, the affinity that Virenna, the Greenmother holds. It is dearer and slower than the simplest calls, taking several turns to cast. When it is done, Screaming root tears itself from the earth screaming, and keeps screaming until the battle is over.
Bloom cultivators tell where the scream came from. In the Age of Odrin, Odrin Half-Core laid his Umbra over ground where the stranded dead pressed close, and they rose on borrowed life beside the shards' beds. The shards learned to scream then, the cultivators say, and have screamed at the dead ever since. The ring agrees with the story at least this far: Umbra lies across from Bloom, and the two repel each other.
Bloom's neighbours, Pyre and Lumen, can reach this spell, though outside Bloom it costs more, fails more easily and calls fewer shards. A deeper realm calls more. Like every spell pressed into a core since the Age of the First Sealborn, it perishes at the Unsealing.
