Not everything Umbra calls is dead or born in the Deep. Summon shade elf mage calls Shade elf mage: a mage of a living people.
Elves are among the affinity-born peoples, the native life of the Hallow that grows where an affinity runs strong. The shade elves say of themselves that they live where Umbra runs strongest, near the ground where the threshold of the Deep presses close, and that they answer the call of those who share their affinity. No one has shown otherwise.
They are not the restless dead, and they are not Deopa's creatures. Whatever power a shade elf mage shows belongs to its own kind. It holds no Core and does not cast as a Sealborn does, for only a core can hold a spell.
The calling is long and dear, and the elf's own card sets its keep. Cast by a core of its own affinity the spell calls the most; against the grain it calls fewer, and a deeper realm calls more.
