Shade elf mage belongs to one of the elf peoples, the affinity-born natives of the Hallow. Its people live where Umbra runs strong. No barracks trains one. A mage calls it with Summon shade elf mage.
It does not come as a shape out of the Welter or up from the Deep. The Sealborn say the spell only carries the summons to where its people live, and that it comes as a living ally that expects wages. That is why the kingdom pays for it in geld as well as the mana that keeps the call open. Its master can send it home.
Like every native, it has no Core, so what it hurls is not a spell. The Sealborn say it is the Umbra of its own ground, thrown far and true as fire and lightning. Umbra lords value it for that reach. It stands at the back of the line and strikes before the enemy closes.
