Summon strangling ivy is a spell of Bloom, the affinity that Virenna, the Greenmother holds. The caster speaks to the undergrowth, and Strangling ivy comes up through the ground to bind the enemy and drink its life.
Bloom cultivators teach it beside the story of Odrin Half-Core. In the Age of Odrin he laid his Umbra over ground where the stranded dead pressed close. They rose on borrowed life, and his living folk faded. This casting spends no people at all. The ivy, the cultivators say, takes from the enemy what the dead take from their own lord.
The spell is among the simpler ones, so even a mage whose core woke across the ring can learn it, though against the grain it costs more, fails more easily and calls less. A deeper realm calls more, as the card shows. Research has pressed it into Seal-shards since the Age of the First Sealborn, and it perishes with every other learned spell at the Unsealing.
