Elf bowman is of the elves, an affinity-born people found where Bloom runs strong. Where the kingdom's own Bowman is ordinary folk drilled to the bow, and so Plain, an elf carries the affinity of the woods in which it grew. It shoots true, moves fast and is hard to hold still. Charms that freeze a soldier in place slide off it.
A kingdom recruits elf bowmen through its Barracks, at a cost in geld, mana and people. Their keep is geld and mana. Unpaid, they desert like any soldier, and a lord who no longer needs them can send them home.
They are slow to muster. The grove keepers explain it simply: an elf draws the bow as a tree reaches for light, and no one can teach that in haste.
