Bowman is one of the kingdom's own ordinary folk, drilled to stand behind the line and shoot. Recruiting bowmen costs geld and draws on the kingdom's people, and the kingdom's Barracks organise the work. Like every drilled soldier, a Bowman is Plain: whatever affinity the lord's core holds, the bow carries none.
The bow is the first answer to a charge. It reaches out before most foot soldiers can close, and its volleys land early in an exchange. How hard and how soon they land is shown on the card.
The folk keep an old saying about it. In the Age of the First Sealborn, great kingdoms devoured small ones, until Daegred, the Sunward made the Law of Equals. The villages say that the small kingdoms which held out longest in those days were the ones whose children had learned the bow.
Upkeep is paid in geld, and unpaid soldiers desert. A Bowman can be sent home like any ordinary recruit.
