Fiend rider is one of Deopa's creatures, a shape that belongs to the Deep that Deopa, the Deep holds within himself. It is no raised corpse, though it keeps company with them in Umbra armies.
A mage calls it with Summon fiend rider; no barracks can train one. Like every bargain of the Deep, it is paid for in people. Each turn it serves, the kingdom gives up folk to the bargain and mana to hold its shape. It cannot be dismissed, and no shortage breaks it loose.
The Sealborn say it rides up out of the Deep the way the dead once went down into it: fast and without pause. It lands an additional strike before its target can answer, moves before slower troops and is still in the saddle when a long fight ends. They also say its blows drink the life of what they strike. The restless dead borrow life from the living; this rider, the Sealborn hold, takes it in battle instead.
