Flame spirit is fire standing as tall as a tower. A great Pyre summoning, Summon flame spirit, calls it out of the Welter, and Pyre gives it a shape that burns. It burns what stands next to it and what stands far off. Fire cannot hurt it, and ordinary blows hardly do. Only cold troubles it.
Mana alone keeps it burning, and a great deal of it. Withdraw the mana and it goes out. Its lord may do so at any time.
Sealborn who remember the Age of the First Sealborn say fires like these were the teeth of the devouring, when great kingdoms ate small ones until Daegred, the Sunward made the Law of Equals. The Law still binds such fires. Weight counts armies, and a kingdom may strike only kingdoms within reach of its own Weight. A lord who calls a tower of fire has made themselves heavier, and has selected new rivals along with it.
