Militia is the kingdom's ordinary folk, called up and armed with whatever is to hand. Recruiting them costs geld and draws on the kingdom's people, and the Barracks organise the work. The folk carry no affinity: they are Plain, like every drilled soldier.
Every kingdom begins its Turning with a few of them already standing. They are the first guard of the foothold, before walls rise or spells are recovered. Before the Covenant first weighs a newcomer, the Newcomer's Grace shelters that kingdom as well. Daegred, the Sunward made the Grace after a veteran struck Wen Sarai of the Newcomer's Grace out soon after she arrived.
They muster faster than any other recruit. The folk say that is because no one needs teaching to hold a tool. For the same reason, they fight clumsily. What each ability does is shown on the card.
Upkeep is paid in geld, and unpaid soldiers desert. Militia can be sent home like any ordinary recruit.
