Grubling is a small, greedy raider of the Pyre borderlands, affinity-born where Pyre runs strong. Grublings are clumsy, loud and many. They fight hand to hand, throw whatever comes to hand, and somehow leave their foes less able to shrug off the arrows that follow. They fight hardest against soldiers of human stock, such as Militia and Spearman.
They answer no drum. A Sealborn lures them into service with Summon grubling, and keeps them on a little geld and mana. Their lord may release them at will.
The Flint lineage keeps a song about them. In the Age of the Given Word, Ysme of Lumen lent Flint protection against a shared enemy, and Flint's songs say that enemy came at its walls behind a horde of grublings. The dwarves, for their part, call the grubling-kind their oldest foes; see Dwarf guard.
