Warg rider is a raider of the same affinity-born people as Orc marauder, riding one of the great hunting beasts that grow on the same ground. Both rider and mount are native life of the Hallow where Umbra runs strong. Neither is raised dead or a creature of the Deep.
A kingdom recruits them through its Barracks for geld, a little mana and people. The Sealborn say each rider must be matched with a mount raised on the same ground. That is why they muster more slowly than the raiders on foot, though still faster than drilled soldiers. They are kept on geld and a little mana. Their master can send them home, and they desert if the pay stops.
The Human lineages have met them on the field. The songs say the beast is steadier than its rider: the beast takes a great deal of punishment and bites back when struck, while the rider swings clumsily from its back.
