Orc marauder belongs to one of the affinity-born peoples, the native life of the Hallow that grows where an affinity runs strong. In its people, that affinity is Umbra. They are living folk, not raised dead and not creatures of the Deep.
A kingdom recruits them through its Barracks for a little geld, a little mana and a person. The Sealborn say they come to the muster readily and in numbers, so a kingdom can field them faster than drilled soldiers. They are low in upkeep, and their master can send them home. Like any soldier, they desert if the pay stops.
The Human lineages say they fight for plunder more than for drill, and it shows: they are clumsy in the line. The lineages also sing that raiders of this people filled the armies that devoured small kingdoms in the Age of the First Sealborn, before Daegred made the Law of Equals. It is a song, not a record.
