A Radiant champion is one of the Wanderers, a foreign soul whose released core left room for a heart demon. It comes out of the Mist each Turning and fights for whoever pays. It serves in Lumen, the affinity of order, law, light and protection that Daegred, the Sunward holds.
The champions tell the history of their kind through Wen Sarai. In the Age of the First Sealborn, a seasoned mage struck her out shortly after she arrived, and Daegred, the Sunward made the Newcomer's Grace. It shelters a newcomer until the Covenant first weighs their kingdom. The champions say they took up their first duty that same day: a champion stands for whoever has just arrived.
It fights hand to hand with holy light. It hits very hard, and it grows stronger and harder to kill the longer it serves. In time it lends the army courage before battle. Later, a company of Evangelist joins its employer's army each turn, larger in some turns than others. At last it teaches its army to hunt dragons. The Bloodkiln drake eats people to keep its body alive, and the champions call such a drake a devouring on wings. The card shows what each stage does.
It is paid well in geld and costs a little mana, more as it grows, and it leaves when the pay stops. Kill one, and its service ends for the Turning, but its soul goes on, and so does its kind.
The champions say the demon wants to be followed into the light by everyone at once, and that the champion who carries it is afraid of where that would lead. Whether a champion can be freed is not known.
