Doom device

Doom device is a relic, a unique treasure that Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps among the Mnemoliths when the world ends. Inside it is an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards. Its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.

Tellan names no maker, and where its shard lay before is unknown. Cultivators of the Unmaker's Edge have their own belief. Undon, the Unmaker agreed to seal the Hallow on one term only: no sealing lasts. They say the device was bound to carry that term into a single kingdom, and that its shard runs Pyre, the affinity of fire and destruction.

Set against a rival, it does what the Unsealing does to the whole world, only smaller. A share of the rival's mana, geld and people is gone. A share of its ground and buildings, farms and fortresses and wards alike, is torn away. A share of every company in its army dies. Nothing the rival owns is spared.

Its hunger is its own ending. The device is spent in the using, and a spent relic makes no copy. For the rest of the Turning its shard lies in Tellan's keeping, waiting for the recasting. A lord who holds it holds a single blow and must decide where to land it.

Until then, heaven weighs it. Holding it makes a kingdom heavier in Weight, and the Law of Equals brings stronger rivals within reach.
