Spirit devourer is a relic of Umbra, the affinity of death and its aftermath. It holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards, bound into a vessel that seems always hungry, and its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.
It favours Deopa's creatures, the shapes that belong to the Deep. Some of them arose from the stranded dead; some went down there at the Breaking. In every battle its holder fights, those creatures grow hardier and strike harder, and every other company grows weaker. It does this on both sides of the field. An enemy's creatures of the Deep gain as much as the holder's own. A lord who brings it against such an army may strengthen the very thing that kills them.
Heaven also counts it in its holder's Weight.
No one knows who made it. Sealborn say its spirit is kin to the Deep and cannot tell friend from foe among its own. That is their belief.
Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps it among the Mnemoliths between Turnings. There is one in each Turning, and if it is lost, its shard returns to his keeping for the recasting.
