Blessing is one of the simplest battle spells of Lumen, the affinity of order, law, light and protection that Daegred, the Sunward holds. Before the lines meet, the caster sets a little order on a single company, selected as the battle falls, and for that battle its soldiers strike truer. Lumen cultivators say order laid on a soldier's hand keeps it from wavering.
Newcomers of that affinity say it is among the first spells they recover. Many cast it while the Newcomer's Grace still shelters them: the protection Daegred, the Sunward made after Wen Sarai of the Newcomer's Grace was struck out, which lasts until the Covenant first weighs a kingdom. A small spell for a small kingdom, they say, learning to hold a line.
A kingdom brings one battle spell to each fight. A deeper realm makes this one stronger; the card shows how much. A core of another affinity casts it at greater cost, with more failure and less strength. Every Turning a Sealborn must recover it by research, and a Human lord can never cast it.
