Silk snare is a battle spell of Bloom, the affinity that Virenna, the Greenmother holds. Each side brings one battle spell to a fight. This one throws a web of silk across the field before the fighting starts. It catches one enemy company, selected by chance, and holds it back, so that company moves later in the battle than otherwise. The card shows exactly what it does.
It is a small spell and a low in cost one, among the simpler spells, so a mage of any affinity can learn it, though across the ring it costs more and fails more easily. Like every spell pressed into a core since the Age of the First Sealborn, it is lost at the Unsealing and must be recovered.
The Human lords cannot cast it, but they sing about it. They call a given word a karmic thread, and they have a saying: a thrown thread holds a company for one battle; a given thread holds a Human lord for a lifetime. Even a given thread can be cut, the songs add. Flint D. Rook cut his, after the victory he won beside Ysme of Lumen.
