Seraph is the least of the celestial peoples, the native life that gathers where Lumen runs strong. It is not recruited. A mage casts Summon seraph, and the celestial comes on its wings to serve the kingdom.
Mana keeps it there. Its upkeep is paid in mana, and when the mana is withdrawn it is dismissed and goes. In battle it flies above the line and mends the wounds of those beside it. The card shows how hard it strikes and how much it heals.
Lumen is the affinity of order and protection, and Umbra lies across the ring from it. Of all the affinities, Umbra finds this celestial hardest to touch.
Not every celestial kept to the light. At the Breaking, some went down into Deopa's Deep. Lumen cultivators say the ones who still answer a call are the ones who looked up at the Scar that day and chose not to follow.
