Fortune token is a relic, a unique treasure Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps among the Mnemoliths across the Unsealings. For all its small size, it holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards. Like every made thing it is Plain. Its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.
No maker is recorded, and where its shard lay before is unknown. The Human lineages sing of it as a luck-piece any hand may carry, shard-bearing or not. In their songs a lord wears it into every hard season.
The songs are partly right. The token does not decide an affinity. While it is held, the kingdom stands a little firmer against the magic of all five, Lumen, Reverie, Umbra, Pyre and Bloom. It is never a great shield against any one of them, but it is a small one against all. It also makes dispelling less costly for a holder who can cast. A coreless lord gains no core from it, and no power to cast; the resistance is the part a Human lord can use.
Its price shows only in what follows. Heaven weighs relics, so the token makes its kingdom heavier in Weight, and under the Law of Equals, stronger rivals come within reach. Luck, the old saying goes, brings its own attention.
