Blink stride is a battle spell of Reverie, the affinity of dream, illusion and mind. Before the fighting starts, one of the caster's companies, selected at random, learns to step through the dream of a wall. For the battle it fights with the siege ability, as its card describes. Cast by a mage of the affinity itself, the spell also gives a company the critical strike, drawn at random on its own, so the two gifts may fall on different companies.
Cultivators of Reverie say a wall holds only while those who face it believe it is there. A company that walks through that belief comes out where a blow hurts most. The Age of the Given Word taught a colder version of the same lesson. Flint D. Rook needed no spell to find the thin places of Ysme of Lumen: their alliance had already shown him where they were.
Each side brings one battle spell. Cast against the grain by a mage of another affinity, this one costs more and fails more easily, and the critical strike never comes. It needs a casting core, and shards scattered only at the Breaking, so no one cast it before the first Sealborn learned to cast.
