Far glass

Far glass is a spell of Reverie, the affinity of dream, illusion and mind. The caster dreams a window into another kingdom and looks through it. What comes back is a glimpse, not a ledger: part of what that kingdom holds, drawn from its army, its geld, its mana and its folk. The target's defences can cloud the window entirely.

In the Age of the Given Word, a broken alliance showed Flint D. Rook where the kingdom of Ysme of Lumen was thin, and he struck there. Cultivators of Reverie say this spell shows a stranger the same kind of thing without any trust to betray first. Some count that a kindness, since no word is broken. Others count it worse.

Casting it spends mana and turns. What it shows is only what the game's rules allow a player to see; no spell opens the rest. Cast against the grain by a mage of another affinity, it costs more and fails more easily. It needs a casting core, and shards scattered only at the Breaking, so no one cast it before the first Sealborn learned to cast.
