Mist bank is a battle spell of Reverie, the affinity of dream, illusion and mind that Aefenna, the Lamplighter holds. Before the fighting starts, a grey dream rolls across the field, and every company in it fights with dimmer sight: the caster's own as well as the enemy's. Cultivators of Reverie say a dream takes no sides. The mist is shared, so it clouds friend and foe alike.
The old story is that small kingdoms used it during the devouring, in the Age of the First Sealborn, because a great army that cannot see fights no more effectively than a small one.
A deeper realm thickens the mist. Cast by a mage of another affinity, it costs more, fails more easily and lands thinner, because power forced against its grain curdles. It needs a casting core, and shards scattered only at the Breaking, so no one cast it before the first Sealborn learned to cast.
