Wiki

Quickened pace

Quickened pace is a battle spell of Reverie, the affinity of dream, illusion and mind. Before the armies meet, one of the caster's companies, selected by no one, feels the moment stretch around it. Its soldiers have time to look, to breathe and to aim, and their blows land truer for the whole battle.

Cultivators of Reverie say a dream can make a moment as long as the dreamer needs, and this spell lends a company that stretched moment. Only a dreamer of the affinity can stretch it far enough for a company to strike sooner as well, and that company is drawn at random on its own, so it may not be the one that aims truer. Cast by a mage of any other affinity, the spell still steadies the aim, though more weakly, and at greater cost and risk, because power forced against its grain curdles; the quickened strike never comes.

Each side brings one battle spell. It needs a casting core, and shards scattered only at the Breaking, so no one cast it before the first Sealborn learned to cast.
