Relic shattering

Relic shattering is a hostile spell of Lumen, the affinity of order, law, light and protection that Daegred, the Sunward holds. The caster spends several turns and much mana reaching into another kingdom, and breaks some of the made things in its keeping. A deeper realm breaks more. Lumen cultivators say order judges a made thing that lies where it does not belong, and unmakes it.

What breaks is lost for the Turning. A lesser work is only one of many copies, and guild artisans can make more. A relic is different, whatever breaks it. Breaking one does not make another; its shard and identity go back to Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies's keeping, and it returns at the recasting.

Lumen cultivators joke that the spell tests Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies's patience: whatever relic breaks, he only keeps it again. Every treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver, and the cultivators do not joke about that.

A core of another affinity casts it at greater cost, with more failure and less strength. Every Turning a Sealborn must recover it by research, and a Human lord can never cast it.
