Entropy charm

Entropy charm is a relic, one of the unique treasures Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps among the Mnemoliths through the Unsealings. The charm holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards, and its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.

No maker is recorded, and where its shard lay before is unknown. Guild artisans say its core runs Lumen, the affinity of order and protection. On the ring of affinities, Lumen and Pyre lie across from each other and repel. The artisans say fire, war and ruin curdle against the charm, the way power forced against its grain always curdles.

A spell aimed at a kingdom must get past three defences in turn: the ward, the kingdom's resistance to that spell's affinity, and the creature's own resistance. The charm strengthens the second of these against Pyre. While it is held, the kingdom stands firmer against the magic of fire and destruction. Against the other affinities it gives nothing.

Heaven weighs relics, so the charm makes its kingdom heavier in Weight. Under the Law of Equals, a heavier kingdom finds stronger rivals within reach, and not every one of them casts Pyre.
