Final bulwark

Final bulwark is a relic, a unique treasure that Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps among the Mnemoliths when the world is unmade. It holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards, bound into a foundation stone. Its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.

Tellan names no maker, and where its shard lay before is unknown. Guild artisans remember a story. In the Age of the Given Word, Ysme of Lumen's relic, the Ox, starved her own wards, and after their shared victory Flint's lord broke his word and struck at those thin places. The artisans say the bulwark was bound soon after, so that no kingdom's walls could be broken that way again. They say its core runs Lumen, the affinity of law and protection.

Whatever its birth, it does what they say it was made for. While it is held, the kingdom's buildings take far less harm when enemies attack. Farms, towns and fortresses still fall to a determined army, but they fall slowly.

Some protective relics depend on the Covenant's shelter and stop working on the last day; the ruleset names them. The current ruleset does not name this one.

Heaven weighs relics, and the bulwark makes its kingdom heavier in Weight. Under the Law of Equals, stronger rivals come within reach, and they will find its walls hard.
