Fate cards is a relic, a unique treasure Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps among the Mnemoliths across the Unsealings. The painted deck holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards, and its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.
Tellan records no maker. Cultivators tell a story all the same. Every foreign soul remembers another life, and some remember worlds where no one believed in magic. The deck, they say, was painted by a soul who remembered a game of chance from such a world and wanted to play it where the stakes were real. They say its core runs Reverie, the affinity of dream.
The stakes are real. Each use deals a hand of draws, and any card may come up. One fills the mana stores. One seasons a hero in service, and another takes that seasoning away. One brings a new Wanderer to serve, one a bundle of lesser works. One turns built land back into wilderness. One unravels every enchantment on the kingdom, the lord's own and the enemy's alike.
That is its hunger: a gamble, and the deck takes as readily as it gives. After each hand it must rest for a long span of turns before it will deal again.
Heaven weighs it all the while. The deck makes its kingdom heavier in Weight, and the Law of Equals brings stronger rivals within reach.
