Global truce

Global truce is a relic, a unique treasure that Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps among the Mnemoliths across the Unsealings. The sealed charter holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards, and its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.

No maker is recorded, and where its shard lay before is unknown. Cultivators of Lumen tell its story. In the Age of the First Sealborn, great kingdoms devoured small ones, and Daegred, the Sunward cast the Law of Equals so that a kingdom may fight only its equals. They say the charter was bound soon after, to carry that peace into one kingdom, and that its shard runs Lumen, the affinity of law.

It keeps a kind of peace. While it is held, the kingdom's geld income grows, as trade and harvest go on undisturbed. When enemies do come, their companies strike a little weaker against it, as if some part of them remembered the law.

It is no wall. It does not stop wars, and it does not decide the holder's enemies.

Its price shows only in what follows, and there is an irony in it. Heaven weighs relics, so the charter makes its kingdom heavier in Weight. Under the very Law it honours, a heavier kingdom finds stronger rivals within reach.
