Mage regalia

Mage regalia is a relic, one of the unique treasures Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps among the Mnemoliths when the world is unmade. The hat and robe hold an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards. Like every made thing they are Plain. Their treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.

No maker is recorded, and where the shard lay before is unknown. Cultivators say the regalia were worn by one of the first Sealborn to learn to cast, in the age when newcomers first discovered what their cores could do.

A mage deepens their core through research, pressing spells into it one by one. Each deeper stage is a higher realm. The regalia shortcut none of that work, but they lend depth. While they are worn, the holder's realm stands deeper than their own cultivation has reached. The depth is borrowed. When the regalia leave, it leaves with them, and the shard is exactly as deep as the mage made it.

They are a mage's garments. A coreless lord cannot cast any spell, and a relic gives them no core to deepen.

Heaven weighs relics, so the regalia make their kingdom heavier in Weight. Under the Law of Equals, stronger rivals come within reach.
