Scrying bowl is a relic of Reverie, the affinity of dream, illusion and mind. It holds an old piece of Covenant-stuff, the substance of the Seal-shards, bound into a shallow bowl, and its treasure spirit answers to Wefan, the Weaver.
Turned on another kingdom, the bowl shows everything that matters there: its army, its geld and mana, its people, its buildings and the enchantments standing over it. No ward turns that sight aside.
Its hunger is time. After each use, the spirit must rest for many turns before it will show anything again. A holder who looks too early may find the bowl dark on the day it is most needed. Heaven also counts it in its holder's Weight.
No one knows who made it. The Flint lineage has its own view of such things. Flint's songs say their lord needed no bowl to find Ysme's thin places; the alliance had shown him. That is their belief, and a bitter one. The bowl shows the same things to anyone, friend or not.
Tellan, the Keeper of Tallies keeps it among the Mnemoliths between Turnings. There is one in each Turning, and if it is lost, its shard returns to his keeping for the recasting.
